Wedding Inspiration Design-Aurora Yellow

I don't know what it is about yellow that makes me want to smile. It's a happy color that makes me think of warm summer days, cool lemonaide and sweet lemon drops.

Wedding Inspiration Design-Turquoise

Today's inspiration board is one of my favorites. I am a big fan of Turquoise especially in wedding design. Turquoise is one of those colors that is cool and crisp while at the same time being sophisticated and chic.

Wedding Inspiration Design-Tomato Puree

With New York's fashion week comes not only the latest in fashion design but the debut of Pantone's Spring 2010 color forecast. As these colors show up on our favorite designer's clothing and in interior design, they will most definitely make their way into the wedding world. I will feature a new inspiration board each day this week to get your creative wedding juices flowing.

Jennifer and Justin

What a privilege it was to assist Jennifer and Justin with their wedding. Their family and friends really pulled together to accomplish a lot of DIY projects including all of the flowers, cake and favors. Because of restrictions at the reception site, we only had an hour to transform the blank canvas into a beautiful reception room. A small army of the couple's family and friends assembled including my two assistants, and linens were steamed, cake tiers assembled, favors placed, flowers arranged and the reception began on time and looking beautiful.

Jennifer and her bridesmaids got ready at the JW Marriott Ihilani resort. Lena Hanson worked her makeup magic making Jennifer a glowing bride.

I love this carefree picture of the bridal party.
Stealing a few minutes alone before the party begins.
The custom made wedding programs guided guests through the evening while adding a pop of color to the tables. Another DIY project by the bride and groom.
A memory table was set-up with pictures of loved ones that had passed away. A loving note and candle honored these special family members.
The four tier wedding cake was made by the bride's friend. Each layer was a different flavor including a delicious carrot cake tier.
Teley from Grand Finale Productions really had the party going.
I love the expression on the maid of honor's face as she realizes that she caught the bouquet.
The newlyweds, Jennifer and Justin.
Thank you to the very talented Joe Esser Photography for capturing these special moments and sharing them with me. It's a blessing to be allowed to share in a couple's special day and Jeniffer and I both agreed that we'll miss our planning meetings. I wish them all the best as they begin their life together.

A Food Tasting

One of the perks of being a wedding coordinator is that sometimes I get to attend tastings. One of the couples that I am working with recently made a pre-wedding trip to Hawaii to finalize a few of the details for their wedding. It was an especially enjoyable tasting because we created a custom menu and the wonderful chef at Kahala Caterers executed the dishes flawlessly.

Mango Soup to start off with.

This was one of our creations. Scallops on sticky rice with a Thai curry. So yummy!

Cajun seared ahi on a bead of cabbage. It had just the right amount of heat.

I love food artistry.

I became so totally engrossed in the cake tasting that I forgot to take a picture until we had nibbled away.
A Cake Life provided Delicious samples.

The pre-wedding trip was not all about food and cake. We made a site inspection of the venue, sat down with the florist to go over details, met with the DJ and photographer, fine tuned the menu with the caterers and checked off many items on the countdown checklist. I look forward to seeing them again in a couple of months at their wedding.

Dirty Dancing the Movie-Wedding Inspiration

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Patrick Swazye this week. I think I can speak for a lot of girls my age that when Dirty Dancing hit the movie screens, I fell head over heals for Johnny Castle, played by Swazye. I wanted to by Baby, played by Jennifer Grey and romp in the Catskill mountains all summer. I couldn't imagine anything more romantic then dancing on a log and practicing lifts in the lake. Swoon. So I started thinking of what a wedding between Johnny and Baby might be like. Not a wedding in the swanky dining room of the Catskill resort but a wedding in the workers quarters where all the action took place.

In the movie, Baby helps a friend carry watermelon to a party. This is where she discovers Johnny and the secret world of "dirty dancing". It's only appropriate that they would have a refreshing watermelon drink at their wedding while taking fun pictures with all of their fellow dancers. It doesn't hurt to dream. I won't even start with the movie Grease and my infatuation with John Travolta.

Sneak Peek-Bridal Photo Shoot

I'm a little behind on my blog updates but there has been much going on at Seasons of Life Events. Yesterday I had the opportunity to be a part of an amazing photo shoot that brought together incredible talent at stunning Hawaii locations. Thank goodness for camera phones with decent resolution as I'm incredible impatient waiting to receive the professional photos. Here's a few quick glimpses of the photo shoot.

Sheena playing on the garden swing at the Oceanfront Oasis Estate.
Brooke shootng Taryn at the Beachfront Oasis Estate. The weather was beautiful.
Taryn interviewing Melanie(hair) and Gemina(makeup) for Model Search TV on the lawn of the Oceanfront Oasis. That's Micheal, the director, working the video camera.
The sun went down and the drama began.
Justin from the Oasis Estates graciously gave us the run of the house, lit candles and brought the fire pit to life making for an amazing final shot.
It was a fun, exhausting and incredible day filled with beauty not only from the models and the scenery but from the hearts of everyone involved in making the photo shoot come together.
So much more to come!

White Wedding

I was recently asked by my son to paint his room white. I balked at first because the first home improvement made when I purchased my house was to painstakingly paint over every white wall with a burst of color. I eventually conceded to his request and after multiple coats of primer and white semi-gloss, I found myself quite delighted with the results. The room felt open, clean and airy and my new found love of white blossomed. It's no surprise that this new love transferred to wedding design. While I still love bright bursts of color, pretty pastels and warm earth tones, I've taken a liking to the crispness of white. Here are some ideas on how to have your own white wedding.
